Courtney A. Howard
Vice President

Courtney A. Howard is the vice president for community engagement at the College of Charleston. She serves as a member of the president's cabinet and provides leadership for community engagement initiatives involving College employees, as well as oversight of youth and precollege programs hosted by the university.
Howard joined the College of Charleston in 2011 and has served as director of the Center for Partnerships to Improve Education, as well as the School of Education's associate dean and briefly as interim dean. She helped establish the Afterschool and Summer Learning Resource Center that provided professional development and networking for afterschool youth specialists in the tri-county for five years. Prior to joining the College, Howard was a tenured faculty member and administrator at Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C., She previously taught at Baldwin-Wallace College (now University) in Berea, OH. A science educator, she has served as a public middle school science teacher and science museum outreach coordinator.
In the community, she has been involved with Trident United Way, SC Commission on National and Community Service, Multiplying Good in South Carolina (formerly Jefferson Awards Foundation), Four Rivers Outreach Community Development Corporation, Tri-county Cradle to Career Collaborative, and several other organizations.
Howard holds doctorate and master's degrees in curriculum and instruction from University of Florida, and a bachelor's degree in biology from Florida A & M University.
