Accessible Parking

Anyone with a valid state-issued placard can park in a garage for free. Upon exiting, the driver must present their driver's license to the cashier for verification. Cashier hours vary by location; please check signage at the garage entrance for cashier hours to ensure someone will be on duty when you exit.

Visitors

Visitors to the College of Charleston who require accessible parking should park at a meter or in a garage.

College of Charleston Accessible Permits

College of Charleston employees and students who wish to park in an accessible parking space in a College of Charleston surface lot must apply for a permit through Campus Services HQ.

To be eligible for an accessible parking permit, you must present the following to Campus Services HQ:

  • Your valid Cougar Card
  • Your valid South Carolina state-issued handicapped placard

Campus Services HQ verifies the placard information with the Department of Motor Vehicles and confirms eligibility to purchase a permit.

College of Charleston accessible parking permits are valid only in accessible parking spaces in College of Charleston surface lots.

  • Vehicles with an accessible permit parked in a space not designated as accessible are subject to ticketing/towing.
  • Accessible spaces are painted blue and/or are marked by a College of Charleston accessible parking sign.
  • College of Charleston accessible parking spaces are first come, first served. If you cannot find an available accessible space in the surface lot of your choice, please proceed to another accessible space on campus. If you need help finding a space on campus, please contact Campus Services HQ and we will be happy to assist you.
  • A College of Charleston accessible permit must be properly displayed in all vehicles parked in accessible spaces from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Campus Services HQ cannot issue temporary accessible permits unless you have a South Carolina state-issued handicapped placard.

If you have trouble locating an available accessible parking space, please contact Campus Services HQ at 843.953.1100.

Van Accessible Parking

Due to the limited supply for van accessible parking, several van accessible parking spaces are reserved for vans with side lifts only. They are marked with a sign that reads SIDE LIFT VAN PARKING ONLY. All other vehicles will be ticketed.
