Honors College Orientation

We can’t wait to meet you in person! Honors College orientation is your first opportunity to truly connect with the faculty, staff, peers, and friends who make up the Honors community. Your particular orientation experience is based on your Honors College pathway:
  • Orientation for the University Honors Program

Admitted to the University Honors Program? Here’s what to know about your orientation experience:

Class registration takes place virtually in June.

    • You’ll meet virtually with an Honors College academic advisor during the Week of June 15 to discuss your goals, your plans for college, and register for Fall ’26 classes.
    • In May, we’ll email you specific details about the course registration process and your meeting time slot.

In-Person orientation takes place on campus August 12-15.

    • You’ll be able to move into your residence hall on Wednesday, August 12.
    • Orientation activities for University Honors Program students begin on Wednesday, August 12 at 5:00 p.m.
    • Soon after you deposit, we’ll email you the link to formally register for your University Honors Program orientation. You DO NOT need to register for an orientation session through MyPortal unless you’re unable to attend the UHP Orientation session in August.

We've created three days of orientation activities to welcome you to campus and set you up for success. Here’s what you can expect during your University Honors orientation:

    • A welcome barbecue for students and their parents (anticipated 6-8pm on August 12).
    • Drop-in advising sessions in case you need to make adjustments to your Fall class schedule.
    • Lunch with current Honors students.
    • An ice cream social.
    • Workshops and info sessions on opportunities like study abroad, research, internships, the Charleston community, the Honors Student Association, and getting involved on campus.
    • Lunch with your Honors faculty advisor.
    • A meeting with your first-year seminar class, led by your peer advisor.
    • Our annual group scavenger hunt around downtown Charleston.

    For Parents/Families

There are optional activities for parents/family members as part of orientation. Parents are welcome at the University Honors Program welcome barbecue (anticipated 6-8pm on August 12). The Honors College Dean and Parent Liaison will hold an optional session for parents of University Honors Program students in the early afternoon on August 13.

  • Orientation for the General Honors College Pathway

Honors Priority Housing

Your first year in college sets the foundation for future success. That’s why all incoming Honors College students receive priority placement to live in Berry Hall as part of our Honors living/learning community.
  • How it Works

Complete the standard housing application to ensure you're included in Campus Housing's room selection system.

You can also start looking for a roommate through Campus Housing’s Search for Roommate feature, the Honors College Class of 2030 GroupMe, or some other platform. We encourage all Honors College students to indicate they are in the Honors College when looking for roommates, because that will impact your Honors priority housing status.

In early June, Campus Housing will contact all incoming Honors students and offer them the opportunity to accept their priority placement for Berry Hall.

    Complete Your Housing Application
  • If you accept Honors Priority Placement (Encouraged)

You’ll get to select a room on the first two floors of Berry residence hall during the first phase of room selection.*

    * If you’re in a roommate group made up of fewer than 50 percent Honors students, you’ll select in the second phase.

    • If you’re a part of the Honors E-LLC, your rooms in Berry Hall are pre-assigned. You won’t have to participate in the room selection process.
    • If you’re a part of the Charleston Fellows Program, you are required to live in Berry Hall your freshman year.
  • If you Decline Honors Priority Placement

Though we strongly encourage all incoming Honors College students to live in our Honors Living/Learning community, it’s not required. If you decide you’d prefer to live in another first-year residence hall, you may. In doing so, you forego your Honors College priority house placement and will select your room with the rest of the College of Charleston’s incoming class.
