STEP Readmission
Successful Transitions through Educational Planning
If you left the College voluntarily or involuntarily* and your cumulative GPA was less than 2.0, you will have to apply for readmission through the Office of Admissions as a readmit student.Steps for Readmission
STEP 1: Apply for readmission though the Office of Admissions as a readmit student. Please apply before the posted deadlines. Late applications will not be considered.
Completed applications are reviewed upon receipt and decisions are generally issued within four weeks of receiving the application.
STEP 2: If you are readmitted, and after you receive your readmission letter and pay your tuition deposit, you must participate in the STEP Program, which includes a one-day workshop (see below) designed to help you succeed as you return to the College.
*If you previously attended the College on a First Year Impact contract, but did not meet the conditions of the program, you are required to complete a minimum of 30 credit hours at another institution before applying for readmission through the STEP Program.
STEP Workshop
Held twice yearly, the STEP workshop is REQUIRED for all students who have been conditionally readmitted to the College of Charleston. Students must be present for the entire workshop. Students who are unable to attend the workshop must defer their return until the next major semester.
Students receiving an official letter of Conditional Readmission offer from the Academic Success and Retention Office will be given instructions on how to register for the STEP workshop.
Please follow the instructions included in your letter of acceptance to pay your tuition deposit so you can register for the workshop. Please do not attempt to register for the STEP workshop until you receive your official letter of Conditional/STEP Readmission and pay your deposit.
After your registration is received and processed you will receive confirmation and additional information on next steps.
At STEP Workshop, you will complete the following:
- Mandatory advising with staff from the Academic Advising and Planning Center
- Learning Contract: STEP students are also required to sign a readmission contract that outlines the minimum GPA plus other requirements you must meet in order to remain at the College.
Students participating in STEP have 27 earned hours upon re-entry to return to good academic standing. It is possible to return to good academic standing before earning 27 credit hours, which would reliquish you of your learning contract.
These conditions are designed to ensure that you make forward progress towards your degree so that you can bring your cumulative GPA into good standing and ultimately graduate.
If you have been readmitted to the College through the STEP Program, but decide you cannot attend for any reason, please contact our office.
