STEP Readmission
Successful Transitions through Educational Planning
If you left the College voluntarily or involuntarily* and your cumulative GPA was less than 2.0, you will have to apply for readmission through the Office of Admissions as a readmit student. This program runs in Fall and Spring only.
Steps for Readmission
Apply for readmission though the Office of Admissions as a readmit student. Please apply before the posted deadlines. Late applications will not be considered. Completed applications are reviewed upon receipt.
- Deadline to submit application for Fall semester is June 1
- Deadline to submit application for Spring semester is November 1
- Timeline for receiving admission decision is 3 to 6 weeks in your admission portal.
If readmitted (all information will be sent to you via email regarding next steps):
STEP 1: Pay your tuition deposit.
STEP 2: Register for the *in-person* workshop.
STEP 3: Remove any holds on your account (can be found in your MyPortal). All holds must be removed in order to attend the workshop.
STEP 4: Attend one day, in-person workshop before classes start! This is required.

How are you paying for your classes? Connect with the Office of Financial Assistance and Veterans Affairs to make sure your FAFSA is complete and has been received.
Complete early advising with our Academic Advising and Planning Center. If you apply early, you can register for classes prior to attending the workshop. Information will be provided directly to you after you register for the workshop
Information Technology. Connect with IT to gain access to MyPortal (holds, paying your bill, DegreeWorks)
*If you previously attended the College on a First Year Impact contract, but did not meet the conditions of the program, you are required to complete a minimum of 30 credit hours at another institution before applying for readmission through the STEP Program.
STEP Workshop Information
The STEP Workshop is REQUIRED for all students conditionally readmitted to the College of Charleston. It is held at the beginning of the semester and students must attend the entire in-person session. If you cannot attend, you must defer your return until the next major semester.
Registration Process
- If you receive an official Conditional Readmission letter from the Academic Success and Retention Office (ASRO), follow the included instructions to:
- Pay your tuition deposit (required before registering).
- Register for the STEP Workshop (instructions provided in your letter.
Once your registration is processed, you’ll receive a confirmation email with the next steps.
What to Expect at the STEP Workshop
- Mandatory academic advising with the Academic Advising and Planning Center.
- Learning Contract: A required agreement outlining the GPA and other conditions you must meet to stay enrolled.
- Check-in to the Workshop starts at 8:30am. Please expect to be on campus from 8:30am - 5:00pm
Academic Progress Requirements
- STEP students have 27 earned hours to return to good academic standing.
- You may regain good standing before earning 27 hours, which would release you from your Learning Contract.
- These requirements help you stay on track to raise your GPA and graduate.
Important Notes
- If you decide not to return after being readmitted, contact ASRO.
- You must clear all account holds and be able to access MyPortal before the workshop. Students with holds will not be allowed to attend and must defer their return to the next major semester.
