Dance

Any student may choose to major in general dance studies. If you want to study dance with an emphasis on performance, you will be admitted through either an audition or demonstrated coursework of technical proficiencies.  

Combine the study of dance technique in three disciplines:  

  • Ballet 
  • Modern  
  • Jazz  

Ground your work in the breadth of dance as a field. You’ll be able to choose an emphasis on general dance studies or performance/choreography. If you choose the performance/choreography concentration, you must audition or demonstrate skills through coursework. You’ll need technical proficiencies to successfully complete the program.  

You can also minor in dance.

You’ll have the opportunity to perform during the department’s production season, but also at state-wide and regional conferences like:  

  • SCAPHERD (South Carolina Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance)  
  • South Carolina Dance Association
  • American College Dance Association
