Designated Member Review
I. IACUC Operations
C. Protocol Submission & Review Process
2. Designated Member Review Following Full Committee Review
When a protocol is reviewed using Full Committee Review and the IACUC requires modifications of that protocol in order to secure approval, the IACUC may use one of the following options for review of the required modifications. The IACUC will specify the designated reviewer(s). The IACUC or any one of its members may call for FCR of any protocol at any time.
- When the modifications are extensive and substantive, the IACUC may call for review of the revised protocol in a convened meeting.
- When the modifications are complex and/or any member specifically requests the opportunity to comment on the revisions, the IACUC may call for Designated Member Review following posting of the revised protocol for five days.
- When modifications are prescriptive or non-substantive, the IACUC may call for Designated Member Review of the revised protocol without posting for committee member comment if all IACUC members have agreed in advance (at the beginning of the academic year) in writing that the quorum of members present at a convened meeting may decide by unanimous vote to use DMR subsequent to FCR. Any member of the IACUC may still request FCR of the protocol.
- Minor modifications of an administrative nature, i.e., typographical or grammatical errors, required signatures, etc., may be confirmed by IACUC administrative personnel/support.
If DMR is used, the approval date is the date that the designated member(s) approve the study or the administrative personnel confirm the minor revisions.
