Downtown Charleston is one of the best parts of the CofC experience. Whether you're walking to class, exploring King Street or enjoying your favorite downtown spots, a little awareness goes a long way.
Follow these simple tips to make every walk a safe one:
- Obey traffic signs and signals
- Always cross at a crosswalk Do not cross mid-block.
- Stay alert. Be aware of what drivers, cyclists and pedestrians around you are doing.
- Be sure cars have come to a complete stop before you cross the street.
- Stay off your phone!

The pedestrian scramble is a traffic signal phase that stops all vehicles at once at an intersection, allowing pedestrians to cross in every direction.

- Calhoun Street at Coming Street
- Calhoun Street at St. Philip Street
- Calhoun Street at King Street
- King Street at Market Street
- Meeting Street at Market Street
- Meeting Street at Broad Street
- King Street and Broad Street
