Culturally-Based Organizations
The College of Charleston is super excited to see that there is a growing interest in Culturally-Based Fraternities and Sororities. Culturally-Based Fraternities and Sororities refer to general or social organizations oriented to students having a special interest in a culture or cultural identity.
These organizations, as part of the college community, do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national or ethnic origin, age, handicap, military service or sexual orientation. This means you do not have to be from the cultural background the organization was founded in, but embrace that cultural tradition.
Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc.
The Lambdas empower Latin men through scholarship, brotherhood, opportunity and protection of identity and equality.
When & How Can I Join?
Culturally Based organizations have open recruitment periods that are determined by the specific organization, not by a council. Specific requirements vary by organization. Check out an organization's local or national website for specific intake requirements.
Also, be aware that organizations will hold informational meetings to begin an intake process. These meetings will be advertised through the Office of Student Life and the organization. These meetings are the beginning of the process of joining and are required for anyone to join.
If you are interested in joining one of these organizations, you can get to know the organizations by attending their events throughout the year. These are heavily advertised through social media from the organizations.
