German Language Placement

When taking German, you may be placed in a language class based on your prior high school language instruction.

All students are strongly encouraged to meet with the Chair of German and Russian Studies to discuss higher or lower placement depending on other factors, including the amount of time that has transpired since your last German course.

If you are a native or heritage speaker of German and wish to be exempted from the language requirement at College of Charleston, or to continue the study of your heritage language, please contact the Department Chair to schedule a short written/oral test for proper placement.
