Bridge Run Training Program

The Cooper River Bridge Run is held annually on the first Saturday in April. This popular race is one of America's largest 10 km (that's 6.2 miles) road racing events that takes place in the Charleston area.

Is this program for you?

Are you interested in participating in our FREE training program? Are you seasoned running veteran?  Are you brand new to running?  Are you just looking to get fit-- maybe lose some weight?   Or perhaps, you're just interested in the FREE training material for a race down the road.  Well, you can look no further because Campus Recreation Services offers a FREE training program designed to help you succeed no matter your goal.

For the April 2024 event, the Bridge Run Training Program Kick-off Week is scheduled to start on Monday, January 29.  Sign-ups for this program will begin in January 2024.  The first few weeks are a soft introduction to our training program.  You can join our program at any time.  After the first couple of weeks, we kick it into our full training program.  From there, each week, we will provide participants with a "do it on your own time" training program outline as well as educational support (see below). There will also be some scheduled group training runs.  The program is entirely voluntary. Full participation is encourage but not required.

*Please note that participation in the actual bridge run event is NOT required to join this program.

Our Program

Our flexible program is designed for all levels of participants.  From the beginners to advanced level runners, and even for those looking for a walking program, this program is designed for you to participate at your own pace on your own time.  Each week we will provide you with your weekly training program and educational support (in both email and video format).  Along with the training program, you will receive educational support on:

  • Advice on how to prepare for running events
  • Proper training and racing nutrition
  • Running tips to avoid injuries
  • Maintaining motivation & goal setting
  • How to properly warm-up
  • & much more

The program is designed for you to participate as much or as little as you would like.  Best of all, the training program is FREE for all College related members.

Contact the CRS Director, Bucky Buchanan, at and you'll be added to our list.

*Please note that your registration fee is not part of this program.  You can sign-up for the bridge run event here.

Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts.
