Concentration Overview


Our program offers you a practical curriculum that covers diverse aspects of organizational leadership, management and development. It prepares you to direct individuals, teams and organizations to maximize their development and performance.
  • Where can Organizational Management and Development take me?

    A Bachelor of Professional Studies degree with a concentration in organizational management and development will strengthen your leadership, management and professional service skills in areas like process management, organizational coaching and organizational development. The strategies you will learn in the BPS core classes and in the organizational management and development classes will help you enter a new industry or advance your career.

    According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), training and development managers earned a median annual wage of $120,130 in 2021. By 2030, the BLS predicts that jobs in this field will increase by 11%. In South Carolina, jobs in training and development are predicted to grow much faster than average.

    Management analysts, or management consultants, earned a median annual wage of $93,000 in 2021. By 2030, the BLS predicts that jobs in this field will increase by 14%.

    As an organizational development manager, you may be asked to plan, develop, implement and administer HR programs and associated programs in addition to helping the organization achieve strategic business goals. Demand for organizational management and development employees will grow as organizations continue to seek ways to improve efficiency, control costs and workplace training.

  • Required Coursework

    First, in order to declare this program of study, you must have completed an associate’s degree or be at least 21 years of age and have completed a series of prerequisite courses. Most students come to this program with some college credit; however, if you are interested in this program and do not have college credit or have not completed the pre-requisite courses, please speak with an advisor to discuss your options.

    In addition to prerequisite coursework, the B.P.S. program requires that students complete a core curriculum of 20-22 hours.

    Then, each student is required to complete 18 credit hours within a concentration. The courses in the organizational management and development concentration include:

    • PRST 321 Fundamentals of Strategic Planning
    • PRST 322 Fundamentals of Process Management
    • PRST 323 Fundamentals of Human Resource Management
    • PRST 324 Fundamentals of Coaching Individuals, Relationships and Teams in Organizations
    • PRST 326 Fundamentals of Organizational Change and Development

    Finally, students will need to complete 12 additional credit hours. There are over 35 electives that students can choose from.
