Meet the Chair
Dr. Tracey Hunter-Doniger
Welcome to the Department of Teacher Education at the College of Charleston. We are a long standing and experienced department with a dedicated and caring faculty. We believe that preparing the next generation of educators requires fostering students’ empathy and relationship skills alongside first rate instruction in cutting edge teaching techniques. We aspire to help our majors become child advocates who care deeply about all students and who incorporate innovative pedagogy and technology to meaningfully educate the whole child for a diverse and ever-changing world.
We have undergraduate initial licensure programs in early childhood, elementary, middle grades, secondary education, physical education, foreign language and special education as well as graduate level initial licensure programs in early childhood, elementary, middle grades education and performing arts. Additionally, we have several graduate programs at the master’s degree level including Science and Math for Teachers (SMFT) and Teaching Learning and Advocacy (MTLA), a shared Master’s Degree in Languages and several post licensure certification programs including Gifted and Talented Education and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
If you are not yet a student at the College of Charleston and are planning to visit the campus, we would be happy to arrange for you to sit in on one of our classes or to meet with some of our students or faculty.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions about the department.
