We prepare you as a future educator for a career in teaching. You learn about educational theories, instructional methods, classroom management techniques, and educational psychology.  

By the end of the program, culminating in a clinical practice internship, you are prepared to create engaging lesson plans, assess student progress and facilitate a positive learning environment that nurtures students' intellectual and social growth.

  • Early Childhood Education

    This major hones students' skills to teach in Pre-K through third grade in all subject areas. Explore the physical, social, intellectual and emotional development of young children.

  • Elementary Education

    This major focuses on grades two through six in all subject areas. Students will practice the theory, methodology and skills needed in the classroom to lead and teach young children.

  • Foreign Language Education

    This major prepares educators to teach Pre-K through twelfth grade in Classics, French, German or Spanish. Students learn language acquisition theory and practices to integrate foreign languages into the classroom.

  • Middle Grades Education

    This major prepares students to teach grades six through eighth. Students choose the option of two content areas of concentration in English language arts, math, science and/or social studies.

  • Secondary Education

    This major prepares students to become successful high school teachers. Teach grades nine through twelve. Students will also major in either biology, chemistry, English, history, mathematics, physics, political science or sociology.

    This major trains educators to teach Pre-K through twelfth-grade students with emotional disabilities, and either learning disabilities or intellectual disabilities. Special Education teachers make a lasting impact on their students' lives by identifying behavioral solutions for each student.

    This Master of Arts in Teaching degree prepares candidates for South Carolina licensure for reaching children in pre-kindergarten through grade three. This programs is recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

    • Graduate Certificate in Gifted and Talented Education - Learn to identify and challenge high-achieving students. 
    • Graduate Certificate in Special Education - Learn to differentiate schooling for students' learning, emotional and/or intellectual disabilities. 

    *Candidates who hold a valid South Carolina teaching certificate may apply for add-on certification upon completion of all courses required by S.C. and upon passing the appropriate professional assessment(s).
