Jurisdiction and Adjudication

Public Safety has jurisdiction over criminal and other campus affairs.

Public Safety Officers at the College of Charleston are South Carolina Group I State Constables with statewide jurisdiction.  Public Safety Officers may, and will, enforce all state criminal statutes on and about any property within the State of South Carolina.

Students may be held accountable to both outside authorities and authorities at the College for acts that constitute violations of law, the Honor Code, Student Code of Conduct, Alcohol Policy, Drug Policy, or any other pertinent College policies.

Interagency Partnership

Through radio contact, joint patrols, and a strong partnership with local law enforcement by our campus police, we have a greater awareness of incidents occurring off campus and those involved/responsible. Disciplinary actions initiated through the College may proceed whether or not criminal proceedings are pending and will not be subject to challenge on the basis that criminal charges involving the same incident have been dismissed or reduced or if no criminal charges were made.
