Astronomy

When you study astronomy, you’ll become a scientist who studies the elements of the universe. You'll perform research to understand how the world works. You’ll examine the planets, sun and stars, galaxies and other aspects of the solar system. You’ll analyze and form theories. You’ll test these theories, collect data and record observations.

You’ll find jobs in industries like scientific research and development services, the federal government, pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing and more.  

You’ll develop specialized skills in research coordination and practice, data analysis and project management. You’ll build a foundation of necessary skills in communication, leadership and writing.  

You’ll also be able to apply your skills in other ways. If you’re a writer, you can be a science journalist or technical writer. Maybe you want to combine your knowledge in astronomy with business and be a planetarium director. Many astronomy and astrophysics students go into the medical field and become pharmacists, doctors or nurses.
