Healing Arts

Seen and Unseen

Healing Arts is an initiative by the Counseling Center to promote student wellness and well-being through the use of art and creativity. Designed to foster healing, connection, and personal growth, the centerpiece of the program is a gallery exhibition showcasing student and community artwork.

Seen and Unseen
There are parts of ourselves we share openly—and parts we carry quietly.
Seen and Unseen is the 2027 Healing Arts Exhibition hosted by the College of Charleston Counseling Center. This year’s exhibition invites us to explore the many layers of the human experience: what we reveal, what we conceal, what others notice, and what may remain just beneath the surface.
Throughout the exhibition, the Counseling Center hallways will become a gallery space featuring creative work from members of the College of Charleston community. Art offers a way to express what words sometimes cannot, share experiences and perspectives, and invite us to see ourselves and one another in new ways.
There is no single way to interpret the theme. Seen and Unseen might explore identity, belonging, connection, change, grief, joy, resilience, healing, or the parts of ourselves that remain hidden. We welcome painting, photography, drawing, poetry, sculpture, collage, digital art, and other forms of creative expression. You do not need to consider yourself an artist to participate.
An Opening for Community
The exhibition will officially open on February 18, 2027, with a community gathering at the Counseling Center. Join us to experience the artwork, connect with others, and celebrate the creativity and stories represented throughout the exhibition.
More than an art show, Seen and Unseen is an invitation to slow down, notice, and make space for what is visible—and what may otherwise go unseen.

Deadline for submissions: December 1, 2026

Exhibition opening: Feburary 18, 2027 (5PM - 7PM)

Artwork can be dropped off at Robert Scott Small, Office 300 (Counseling Center)
