The College of Charleston Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry is proud to have a chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma (ΑΧΣ), a professional fraternity for chemists.
With a 100-year history and more than 78,000 members, Alpha Chi Sigma brings together students pursuing chemistry related careers. Its mission is to promote and advance the science of chemistry and foster a community of professionals in the field.
On campus, our chapter participates in outreach events to share our love of chemistry with the greater Charleston community.

Our Chemistry and Biochemistry students continue to earn top national honors including NSF Graduate Research Fellowships in support of their graduate studies and Goldwater Scholarships for students interested in pursuing research as a career.
As you progress though your studies, your faculty mentors and the office of Nationally Competitive Awards will help prepare you and help you identify awards that support your goals and projects.The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry produced the most Goldwater Scholars in the state of South Carolina over the past decade including Nathan Adamson (‘15) Brenna Norton-Baker (‘15) Alex Schwartz (‘18), Alyssa Johnson (‘18), John Cobb (‘19) Dashiell Jay (‘20), Mason Huebsch (‘20), Phia Gierszal (‘22), Brison Shira ('23) and Abanob Hanna ('23).
