What We Look For

We want you to succeed at the College of Charleston. A cumulative college GPA of at least 2.6 will make you a competitive candidate for admission.

While GPA is weighed heavily during our application review, we review applications holistically and weigh other factors including your most recent grades, degrees awarded, talents and achievements.

Application Requirements by Transfer Type

Requirements for transfer students differ depending on the type of transfer applicant.
  • Students with 12+ hours of college credit

Submit your college transcript(s), you do not need to submit high school transcripts.

You must be in good standing at your current institution.

Advanced placement (AP, IB, CLEP) and high school dual credit hours earned will not count toward your credit hours in determining whether you are applying with 12+ credits, but they will be considered for credit upon your admission.

  • Students with fewer than 12 hours of college credit

In addition to meeting the recommended transfer GPA, you must also meet the first-year coursework requirements. We will consider your college-level GPA but will also review your high school transcripts.

If you are currently in your first semester of college since graduating high school, you should submit mid-semester grades for evaluation.

  • Readmit Students

If you were previously enrolled at the College of Charleston as a degree-seeking student (first-year or transfer), you should apply using our undergraduate readmit application.

Readmit students should meet the transfer GPA recommendation (2.6 or greater).

If you left the College with less than a 2.0 GPA and you are conditionally readmitted, you will be required to complete the STEP Program, a one-day workshop that will help you succeed upon your return.

If you previously attended the College as a provisional student but did not meet the program conditions, you are required to complete 30 credit hours at another institution before applying for readmission.

  • Second Degree Students

If you have already earned a bachelor’s degree from any accredited four-year college and are interested in earning a second bachelor’s degree, you can apply to the College of Charleston by choosing the undergraduate transfer student application.

  • Adult Degree Completion

The Bachelor of Professional Studies program is a degree completion program for students who:

    • are 21 years or older.
    • have earned a high school diploma (or equivalent).
    • have completed at least 30 hours of college-level coursework (recommended).
