At the Office of Student Wellness and Well-being, we want to help you thrive academically and personally. We want to keep you doing well with resources, tools and support for each wellness aspect of your college life.

From realizing your abilities and coping with daily stress, to becoming more productive and finding opportunities for play and enjoyment, let us help contribute to your overall well-being.

Eight Dimensions of Wellness


From fitness and finance to social and spiritual, embrace a holistic approach to your well-being with resources to help you develop your Eight Dimensions of Wellness.
  • Emotional Wellness

    Cope effectively with life, build healthy relationships and develop a positive self-image.

    OSWW offers many options for working on emotional wellness like 

    • Students 4 Support and S4S+: Need someone to talk to? Students 4 Support & S4S+ is the College of Charleston's  highly-trained group of peer support volunteers to chat, listen and assist you with your questions, concerns and frustrations. S4S+ are unique in that they are members of the queer community with a desire to use their training and passion to help members of the queer community.  They are located at the Pride Center.  
    • Therapy Assistance Online (TAO): A free service to College of Charleston students, TAO provides educational sessions, tools and exercises related to help you achieve your mental health and wellness goals.
    • Credible Mind: Mental Health Matters.  We all struggle and it can be hard to know where to turn for help. We've got you covered with expert vetted resources to help you flourish.
      Use your Cougar credentials to access videos, apps, podcasts and other vetted resources to help you through your life's emotional challenges.

    And as always, our specific emotional wellness events are available through the campus' student life platform, Cougar Connect!

     

    Mental Health is important to our campus. 

    If you are interested in learning more about mental health treatment check out our partner, the Counseling Center.

    • Counseling Center. From initial assessment and individual therapy to crisis support and referral services, the College's on-campus clinicians are available to assist you.

     

  • Social Wellness

    Get involved.

    Social wellness is the sense of connectedness and belonging we create and maintain as we build a healthy support network. 

    Our clubs and organizations use campus' student life platform, Cougar Connect to share events and meetings.

    The Office of Multicultural Student Programs and Services supports the social, cultural development, and academics of our students from underrepresented populations. 

    The Pride Center enhances the well-being of our diverse LGBTQ+ community at the College of Charleston. They provide programs, services, and resources in support of our students, parents, faculty, and staff:

  • Physical Wellness

    Discover which healthy habits make you feel better and best suit your lifestyle, level of mobility and fitness.

    Adopt healthy habits such as routine medical exams, immunizations, safety precautions, sexually transmitted infection screenings, adequate sleep, a balanced diet and regular exercise.

    Physical wellness includes avoiding or minimizing risky behaviors like using alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

    And as always, OSWW's specific physical wellness events are available through the campus' student life platform, Cougar Connect!

    • Campus Recreation Services. Get up and stay active. Intramural and club sports, outdoor adventures and fitness and wellness programs, find your activity for maintaining a fit and healthy lifestyle.
    • Student Health Center. Services and resources to help restore and maintain your physical wellness.
    • Nutrition information through the Charleston Culinary Group.  Learn more about the nutrition, how the group works with dietary needs, and find the registered dietician.

     

  • Environmental Wellness

    Understand how your social, natural and built environments affect your health and well-being by being aware of how your actions affect the Earth.

    Celebrate our interconnectedness with nature and discover how nurturing our environment can lead to a healthier, more balanced life.

  • Financial Wellness

    Gain an understanding of how your financial choices impact your life, goals and peace of mind. 

    Manage your resources and learn how to live within your means. Make informed financial decisions and investments, set realistic goals and prepare for short-term and long-term needs.

    • IGrad & Financial Wellness: Available through the College of Charleston's Career Center, IGrad provides Students with a free financial literacy platform to empower students, parents and families to make effective personal finance decisions.
  • Intellectual Wellness

    Intellectual wellness is the ability to recognize your unique talents — be creative and seek out ways to use your knowledge and skills. 

    Intellectual wellness embraces the pursuit of knowledge, critical thinking and academic growth for personal development and academic success.

    • Center for Student Learning: Access resources to enhance your academic skills and performance including tutoring, academic coaching, study skill workshops and supplemental instruction.

  • Spiritual Wellness

    Spiritual wellness is living your life aligned with your own personal values and beliefs to expand your sense of purpose and meaning.

    Spiritual wellness is a highly personal and individual journey. While the advantages of spiritual wellness may differ from person to person, spiritual wellness can provide you with enhanced self-awareness, a greater sense of purpose, positive coping mechanisms, stress reduction, improved relationships, and a closer connection to community.

    Free and confidential, services of the Counseling Center support your emotional, psychological and interpersonal well-being at the College.

  • Cougar Inclusion Team through the Office of Institutional Diversity

    The Cougar Inclusion Team (CIT) receives reports of possible bias or exclusion and offers educational intervention to help foster an inclusive community. 

    Concerns of possible discrimination or harassment will be shared with the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs for review and further action as appropriate.  Concerns of violations of any College policy will be shared with the appropriate office.

    The CIT is comprised of College employees representing diversity, student affairs, academic affairs, and Equal Opportunity offices.
