Center for Sustainable Development

The campus hub for everything sustainability.

We empower our campus community to rethink, redesign and restore our planet’s systems. This is possible through the work we do with students, staff and faculty. Want to get involved? Our office creates a wide range of engaging events and programs

If you have a valid campus login (current student/faculty/staff), you can find more information about us on The Hub!

Bike Share Program

The purpose of this program is to promote alternative and accessible transportation by providing a free bike to students. While we have a limited number of bikes in our fleet, students are able to borrow a bike for up to a full academic year. The interest form is published at the beginning of the semester in the fall, and in this spring if bikes are available.

Cougar Changemaker

Funding for student-led sustainability projects on campus! The Cougar Changemaker program allows students to get involved at two levels: submitting a proposal and serving on the Changemaker committee.

Interested students submit project ideas and proposals on a semester-to-semester basis. A student committee then reviews and helps to put projects into place.

Cougar Free Store

a group of students attending a Free Store popup event in the Cistern Yard

The Cougar Free Store is a place where members of the College of Charleston community can donate and take items for FREE.

We see older, extra and unwanted goods on campus as resources that can and should be reused instead of thrown out. The Free Store carries clothing, school supplies, home goods and more!

Social Justice Coffee Hour

a group of students, faculty, and staff attending a Social Justice Coffee Hour event

The Social Justice Coffee Hour aims to create open and respectful discussion about a selected social justice topic.

Attendees get to meet and hear from community members who have relevant experience. Both the panelists and attendees are invited to take part in meaningful conversation.

Internship

a group of CSD interns

Make a positive difference while gaining professional skills. CSD Interns lead projects ranging from zero waste to community outreach.

Sustaining the self while working to sustain the world is important to us. The Center aims to provide a supportive and engaging work environment for our interns. We want team members to reach their greatest potential!
