Performance Highlights

Laurel Van Beusecum, a native of Western North Carolina, holds an M.F.A. in Dance from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and a B.A. in dance performance and choreography from The University of Alabama. She has enjoyed numerous performance and choreographic opportunities including dancing with the Second Avenue Dance Company in NYC and taking stage at Radio City Music Hall. Having the opportunity to work with Kyle Abraham, Deborah Jowitt, and Clay Taliaferro have been enriching highlights of her artistic journey.

Laurel has enjoyed teaching and choreographing at colleges, universities, academies, studios and summer intensives in North Carolina, New York, Alabama, and Tennessee. Serving as the production assistant as a graduate fellow at NYU, Laurel grew a passion for the overall performance process. In her recent university appointment as Instructor/Coordinator, she continued to further opportunities for the dance program’s pre-professional company and students beyond the university walls. Teaching since 2013, she challenges her students to explore the valuable, universal language dance offers through both technique and lecture base courses.

From working with community theatre performers to mentoring collegiate students seeking professional artistic career paths, Laurel honors and advocates for all artists’ individual goals.  She is honored to be joining the Theatre and Dance Dept. at College of Charleston and is delighted to engage with a community of collaborative students and artists.
