Mindful Move-In and Move-Out

We see an increase in waste produced during students’ move in and out from residence halls. The Mindful Move-in and Move-out programs help to reduce this uptick in waste!  

Mindful Move-in aims to make cardboard recycling easier and more streamlined. Mindful Move-out allows students to donate housewares, clothes, food and more instead of throwing them out.

Select items like trash cans, clothes hangers, and bed risers collected during Mindful Move-out are redistributed for free during Mindful Move-in!

Fall 2026 Move-In

Cougar Free Store Pop-ups

Dates: August 12, 14, & 15, 2026

Time: 12 - 4pm

Location: Second floor of the Lightsey Center

These pop-ups help redistribute select items collected during the previous semester's Mindful Move-out. All materials are FREE for College of Charleston students to take! This program not only gives students what they need at no financial expense to themselves, but also helps decrease the amount of packaging that ends up in our landfills from new products.

  • Trash cans
  • Mirrors
  • Lamps
  • Fans
  • Kitchen supplies
  • School supplies
  • Organizational Containers

Cardboard Recycling

Dates: August 12-16, 2026 

We provide orange cardboard recycling corrals around campus. Residents are responsible for breaking down their own boxes. Please place empty and flattened cardboard boxes in these corrals. Any landfill/trash (plastic bags, films, or foam) in your boxes should be added to your regular landfill location. 

Cardboard corrals will be taken down on August 16th at 1pm. Add all flattened boxes to your regular recycling location from then on. See our Recycling Guide for Residence Halls for more information.

  • Berry Hall - In front of Berry in the gated courtyard used for bike parking
  • McAlister Hall - In front of McAlister on the pedestrian pathway
  • Buist & Rutledge Rivers - On the lawn by the back entrance of Rutledge (parking lot side)
  • Craig Hall - In front of Craig
  • Liberty Hall - In Liberty Alley
  • McConnell Hall - In front of McConnell
  • Warren 1, 10, & 20 - Outside 10 Warren
  • George Street Apartments - In the courtyard between CVS and Caviar & Bananas
  • Kelly House - Holding station (tilt cart) in the Courtyard
  • 99 St Philip - In the parking lot

If you do not see your on-campus housing residence listed above, please flatten all boxes and add them to your regular recycling or bring them to a location listed above.
