NOTE: All applications for school and departmental scholarships must be completed through the Cougar Scholarship Awarding System (CSAS).

School of Health Sciences Scholarships


Our school offers the following scholarship opportunities:
  • Dr. Andrew and Josephine Lewis Endowed Annual Scholarship

    The Dr. Andrew and Josephine Lewis Endowed Annual Scholarship is for a student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Applications for the scholarship must be accompanied by two letters of recommendation. First preference will be given to an African American undergraduate majoring in Physical Education with a concentration in Teacher education. Second preference will be given to an African American undergraduate majoring in the Department of Health and Human Performance. Third preference will be given to any undergraduate student with a major within the Department of Health and Human Performance.

  • Dr. Deborah A. Miller Public Health Scholarship

    The Dr. Deborah A. Miller Public Health Scholarship will be used to support full-time students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health within the Department of Health and Human Performance. The student must have completed 50 hours, with a minimum of 15 hours completed at the College of Charleston. The student must have completed a minimum of 6 hours within the Department of Health and Human Performance, have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5, and completed a minimum of 15 hours of volunteer experience in a health-related field.

  • Dr. Thomas D. and Janie L. Langley Endowed Scholarship

    The Dr. Thomas D. and Janie L. Langley Endowed Scholarship supports South Carolina students who have declared a major in exercise science or physical education teacher education. Recipients must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Joseph A. Tate Public Health Scholarship

    Joseph A. Tate, a 2015 B.A. in Public Health graduate, and the Marketing and Events Coordinator for the School of Education, Health, and Human Performance, died suddenly in April 2017. This award was funded by family and friends so that Joe's legacy at the College of Charleston would be remembered and carried on. Applicants must be a declared B.S. or B.A. Public Health major; an active member of the Public Health Society for at least one year; must have financial need; 3.0 GPA and junior standing.

  • Department of Health and Human Performance Scholarship

    The Department of Health and Human Performance Scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a degree offered via the Dept. of Health and Human Performance. Students who have completed a minimum of 9 hours of required coursework in HEHP, have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and are active in SSMA, PEH, or an equivalent club are eligible for this scholarship. When evaluating applicants for this award, the scholarship committee will consider the student’s professional, college and/or community activities (including any leadership roles) and how he/she hopes to enhance the health and well-being of those they interact with in the future.

  • Dr. William R. Barfield Endowed Annual Scholarship

    Dr. William R. Barfield is a beloved and admired professor at the College of Charleston who has dedicated his professional life to teaching and research. This scholarship was established for exercise science students in the College of Charleston's Department of Health and Human Performance. Applicants for this scholarship must be declared exercise science majors and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. Preferences include student-athletes, students who participate in intramural activities, adult students, and students with veteran status.

  • Laura S. Griffin Service Scholarship

    The Laura S. Griffin Service Scholarship will be used to support a full-time student pursuing either a health promotion concentration or a health promotion degree. The student must have completed 60 hours, with a minimum of 30 hours completed at the College of Charleston. It is recommended that the student also have completed a minimum of 9 hours in Health within the Department of Health and Human Performance at the College. The student must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5, and it is recommended that he/she has completed a minimum of 25 hours of volunteer experience in Substance Abuse Prevention while at the College; a peer health educator is preferred.

  • Laura S. Griffin Health Educator Scholarship

    The Laura S. Griffin Health Educator Scholarship will be used to support a full-time student pursuing either a health promotion concentration or a health promotion degree. The student must have completed 60 hours, with a minimum of 30 hours completed at the College of Charleston. It is recommended that the student also have completed a minimum of 9 hours in Health within the Department of Health and Human Performance at the College. The student must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5, and it is recommended that he/she has completed a minimum of 25 hours of volunteer experience in a health-related field while at the College.

  • Solomon Family Scholarship

    The Solomon Family Scholarship was established by Dr. Jason and Mrs. Jessica Solomon in an effort to honor Dr. A. Frederick Solomon (Dr. Jason’s father), and in memory of A. Bernard Solomon (Dr. Jason’s grandfather). The scholarship’s intended purpose is to continue the legacy that these two men lived by and that is that hard work. determination. and integrity are values that will provide for a successful life. These values set the standard and success for the Solomon family, and it is the Solomon Family hope that this scholarship may contribute to the recipient’s future success. Both Dr. Jason and Jessica attended the College of Charleston. Requirements for this scholarship include exercise science major; SC resident living in the tri-county area; junior or senior standing with 60 earned credit hours; cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; engaged in the CofC and local community; pursuing a career in dental medicine or health science program; brief essay required as part of this scholarship application; renewable scholarship.
