Accomodation

Students will be housed in one of the College of Charleston’s newly-renovated, comfortable, and secure residence halls. Each room is outfitted with a bathroom, a mini fridge, central air conditioning, and sleeps two students.

Meals

Throughout the conference, the students will be provided daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, refreshments and snacks. The students will enjoy a variety of food including some local cuisine, and with consideration taken to special dietary needs and restrictions.

Transport

All transports during the conference program will be handled by professional service providers in safe, comfortable, and air-conditioned vehicles.

Travel

Students will have various options for traveling to Charleston and the college, and all are required to complete a travel survey prior to attending. This survey helps our staff prepare for the students’ arrivals and departures, ensuring a smooth transition upon their arrival on campus. Detailed travel information will be sent out in May, accompanied by student welcome packets containing essential information and instructions for program participants to facilitate their journey and optimize their overall experience.

Safety & Security

The safety and security of our students are our highest priorities. Throughout the conference and during all program activities—on and off campus—students will be under supervision. While they will have designated periods for independent activities, they will always be accompanied by adult staff members, keeping them in small groups at designated meeting points for enhanced safety.

Student's residence hall is continuously monitored by adult faculty and staff, and safety features of the residence hall include strategically placed security cameras, round-the-clock desk staff, and a key card access system that controls entry to the building, floors, and individual rooms.

For student participation in, near and on the water activities, parents are required to sign a liability waiver.

At any time during the conference, parents and guardians can reach a member of our leadership team for reassurance and updates.

Student Needs

Prior to their arrival at the Conference, parents/legal guardian of all students must complete a thorough medical, dietary, and emergency contact survey. This step is crucial as it enables our staff to cater to individual health and dietary requirements proactively, ensuring that each student has a safe and enjoyable experience. Our staff actively collaborates with families to identify any specific medical conditions, dietary restrictions, or unique learning needs, allowing us to tailor our approach and foster a successful learning environment for all participants.

Invitations

This conference is by invitation only. We extend invitations to exceptional high-performing students across the nation who have expressed a keen interest in the field of engineering. The College of Charleston dispatches formal invitations based on information regarding students’ interests and academic prowess, typically derived from standardized college entrance exams such as the SAT or ACT. Once students receive their electronic invitations, they can confirm their participation in the program by completing their registration.
