Make a Difference as a Special Education Teacher

Build the knowledge and skills to support students or all abilities. The CREATE program provides a guided pathway to your B.S. in Multicategorical Special Education along with financial support to help you focus on your goals and making a lasting impression in the classroom.

Program Pathway


Follow a clear step-by-step path to earning your degree in special education.

Begin by completing your associate degree at Trident Technical College*, then transfer to the College of Charleston to complete your Bachelor of Science in Multicategorical Special Education.

Along the way, you'll build the knowledge and skills needed to support diverse learners and pursue licensure.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and funding is awarded as long as it remains available. Applying early is encouraged.

How to Apply


To get started review program eligibility requirements and follow the steps to apply to Trident Technical College and the College of Charleston as part of the CREATE pathway.
  • Application Requirements

    Before applying, ensure you meet the following criteria for the CREATE program:

    • Employed full-time in a S.C. public or charter school and maintain adequate progress as outlined in the CREATE Scholarship Loan Agreement.
  • Application Process

    To apply, complete the online application and submit the following materials:

    • Ensure you are and will remain employed full-time (any position) in a South Carolina school district.
    • Complete the online CREATE application.
    • Apply online to Trident Technical College and declare Associate in Arts as your major.
    • Send official transcripts to Trident and College of Charleston from ALL colleges previously attended.
    • When you have been accepted by TTC & CREATE, contact the TTC CREATE Center director, John Hyatt to obtain an approved program of study.

    Applications are accepted on a rolling basis while funding is available.

    Apply evidence-based approaches to support students with emotional and behavioral challenges.

    Collaborate effectively with families and professionals to support student success.

  • Language & Literacy

    EDFS 425 — Foundations of Language & Literacies
    Examine how language and literacy develop across diverse learners and contexts.

    EDFS 426 — Language & Communication
    Support communication development using a range of strategies and tools.

    EDEE 429 — Emergent Literacies (PK–3)
    Teach early reading skills, including phonics, fluency, and comprehension.

    EDEE 435 — Teaching Reading (Grades 2–6)
    Deliver effective reading instruction that builds strong, confident readers.

    Complete a full-time student teaching experience in your licensure area.

Tuition: Covered Through SC-CREATE

Through the SC-Create program, your education is fully supported so you can focus on your future.

Tuition, textbooks and Praxis II exam costs are all covered by SC-CREATE for eligible students pursuing initial or add-on licensure in Special Education with no deposit required.
