Lorna McCarron, PhD
Visiting Assistant Professor of German
My research explores depictions of the mind and body in contemporary German-language literature. I wrote my dissertation on the portrayal of embodiment in twenty-first-century texts by women, trans people, people with disabilities, and older people. As a 2022–23 Georgetown University Medical Humanities fellow, I prepared an article on race and mental health in Olivia Wenzel’s 1000 Serpentinen Angst (1,000 Coils of Fear, 2020), which appeared in the German Quarterly. I have enjoyed designing courses that will introduce students to the medical humanities through analyses of German-language culture. During the academic year 2026–27, I will be teaching German at the introductory and intermediate levels.
