Faculty Information

College of Charleston Faculty,
Teaching a course in the First-Year Experience (FYE) program is an incredibly rewarding experience that is open to all College of Charleston faculty to participate. This program is required of all incoming first-year students during their first year at the College (with strong emphasis on taking it the first semester) and therefore, FYE faculty have the unique opportunity to set the tone for how a first-year student navigates their academic experience, as well as to facilitate a safe and engaging classroom culture that contributes to a sense of belonging on our campus.
To help support your efforts towards academic and cultural success in the FYE classroom, the FYE program provides faculty with an events budget that can be used to purchase supplies, invite guest speakers, go on field trips, host workshops, dine together, and much more! Information about planning events can be found on the FYE Faculty Resources Hub using the link below.
FYE provides faculty with the opportunity to develop new and innovative courses by teaching a First-Year Seminar course (e.g., FYSE or FYSG) or to teach an existing catalog course with a unique theme or approach that is geared towards a classroom full of first-year students. In addition, you can team up with a colleague(s) to teach within a Learning Community, where two or more courses are taught with a common theme that links them together. With so many pathways to teach in FYE, we hope you will consider teaching in this critical College of Charleston program.
