  • CSD Staff Members

    Nicole Killen (she/her)

    Associate Director for Student Engagement

    Nicole is focused on building sustainability-focused experiential learning opportunities for students at the College. She works closely with both the operational and academic centers of campus through programs such as hands-on internships, campus as a living lab program, and other student-focused affiliated programs. A fun fact is that she has been to 46 out of the 50 states. 

     

    Katie Doherty (she/her)

    Zero Waste Manager

    She's responsible for the stategy, management and continuous improvement of the College's zero waste initiatives. She's an advocate for sustainable waste management, manages partnerships with stakeholders, and works on improving the infrastructure, programs and services for our campus community. In her free time, she helps care for birds of prey at the Avian Conservation Center!

     

    Aly Petruch (she/her)

    Graduate Assistant

    As a Graduate Assistant at the Center, Aly provides support to the Associate Director for Student Engagement, manages the rotation internship, mentors interns, and assists in creating the Center's sustainability reports. She is also a certified beekeeper! 

     

    Taylor Campbell (she/her)

    Graduate Assistant

    She collaborates with the Sustainability Working Group, assists in planning and logisitics, and helps foster sustainability innovation and learning in academic programs at the College of Charleston.

  • CSD Student Interns

    Sarah Clark (she/her)

    Campus Outreach Lead

    She helps plan and coordinate events, such as Sustainability Week, to connect people on campus with active sustainability. A fun fact about her is that her favorite animal is an otter!

     

    Bailey Crane (she/her)

    Zero Waste Lead

    Baily assists the Zero Waste Manager in working towards our goal to 90% waste diversion by 2035. She supports programs such as Blue Bin Brigade, Specialty Recycling, Terracycle, and Move-in/out. She is also an ATLAS Fellow with Post Landfill Action Network (PLAN) working to implement zero waste goals on campus. A fun fact is that she had an art exhibit in Greenville's Artisphere! 

     

    Badriyeh Diab (she/her)

    Reporting, Assessment, and Data Management Lead

    Badriyeh assesses the College's waste audit by tracking data from various waste streams on campus such as recycling and composting. She also works with the Director and Zero Waste Manager on reports, like the annual Sustainability Report. A fun fact is that she LOVES coffee!  

     

    Lexi Dowd (she/her)

    Student Engagement Lead

    Lexi's job is to raise awareness, educate, and interact with the student body to make sustainability on campus accessible to all. Her goal is to meet people where they are and show them where they can be. A fun fact about her is that she's eaten rattlesnake!  

     

    Sophie Ecklund (she/her)

    Community Engagement Lead

    Sophie oversees the Living Lab program, which connects student with local non-profits in the Charleston community. This allows students to complete short-term projects and gain professional development skills while engaging with and supporting the community. A fun fact is that she showed goats in high school through the FFA and currently has a pet goat.  

     

    Abigail Hutchison (she/her)

    Free Store Manager 

    Abigail works to foster the CSD's efforts to create a sustainable, circular economy on campus by encouraging CofC students and faculty to donate and reuse items through the Free Store. A fun fact is that she is a certified scuba diver!  

     

    Regan Krist (she/her)

    Climate Action Lead

    She supports and facilitates the campus greenhouse gas inventory. College-wide climate action planning, and addresses climate-related events and challenges. A fun fact about Regan is that she went scuba diving in El Chapo's old plane. 

     

    Meghan Lord (she/her)

    Marketing & Communications Lead

    Meghan creates marketing materials to promote the Center's mission, programs, and events. She also manages our public identity through social media and the Resilient Advocate newsletter. A fun fact is that she loves gardening and volunteers with the Charleston Parks Conservancy! 

     

    Kevin Riley (he/she/they)

    Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Lead

    Kevin serves as a resource for students with the CSD to promote JEDI principles. He works with other organizations on campus to create a diverse representation of sustainability on campus. A fun fact is that Kevin is terrified of insects!

     

    Daniel Sanguino-Franco (he/him)

    Staff Engagement Lead 

    He works to increase staff participation and awareness of sustainability effects across campus, particulary through the Green Office Certification Program. In his free time, he co-manages a soccer-focused Twitter account with over 40k followers across all Latin American countries! 

     

    Grace Squires (she/her)

    Cougar Changemaker Lead

     She coordinates the student case managers and hosts committee meetings. She also manages the Changemaker application process and reviews submissions to help students create sustainable change on campus. In her free time, Grace is on the sailing team at CofC. 

  • CSD Rotation Interns

    Will Dalton (he/him)

    Will is Undergraduate at the College of Charleston Honors College seeking a degree in Biology with minors in Environmental and Sustainability Studies, and Entrepreneurship. He is interested in using his skills and knowledge towards sustainability and solving environmental issues. 

     

    Noah Hammett (he/him)

    Noah is originally from the Boston area but has been living here in Charleston since 2019. Sustainability is a practice that is of utmost importance to him, and he adheres to making it a part of his daily lifestyle. As a freelance content creator, he enjoy working with brands that have a sustainable focus in mind. 

     

    Camilla Linkin (she/her)

    Camilla is a sophomore at the College of Charleston majoring in Business Administration with a concentration of Leadership for Sustainability. She is very excited to be a part of the CSD team to expand her knowledge and passion on sustainability. When Camilla isn't working hard at school you can find her doing her favorite things dancing, swimming at the beach, or hanging out with her friends.  

    Keirston Lorrick (she/her)

    Keirston is a freshman here at the college majoring in Political Science. She enjoys sea shell collecting and long naps.

     

    Ella Salinski (she/her)

    Ella is a junior, majoring in marine biology with a minor in sustainability studies. She is from Delaware, so she love exploring Charleston, going to the beach, and overall trying new things!

     

    Katie Vilandry (she/her)

    She is a sophomore here at COFC. Katie is currently majoring in communications, and she is from Smithfield Rhode Island. She is so happy to be part of this semester's rotation internship program, and is even more excited to be working hands-on with sustainability projects in efforts to protect the future of our planet!

  • Living Labs Program Participants

    Reese Baker (she/her)

    Project: Charleston Moves

    Reese is from Charleston, SC. She transferred to CofC this current year. She is double majoring in marine biology and environmental and sustainability studies. She love Charleston and one of her favorite things to do is go to the beach! She is so excited for this opportunity to learn more about sustainability.

     

    Abby Malloy (she/her)

    Project: South Carolina Aquarium

    Abby is a sophmore Environmental and Sustainability Studies Major, with a minor in Geology, and working towards a 21st Century Sustainable Business Solutions Certificate. As a sustainability students, she has wanted to be involved with the CSD since she came to campus. She became a part of the Living Labs Program in the fall of 2023 because she wanted to be engaged in active sustainability in the Charleston area, and the LLP has connected me with an opportunity to do so while learning about professionalism in the workplace. One fun fact about me is that she is training to run the Cooper River Bridge Run this April. 

     

    Rebecca Maude (she/her)

    Project: Porter-Gaud School

    Rebecca is a senior majoring in biology and is interested in urban planning and sustainability. She is especially passionate about walkable and accessible cities like her home city of New York, and spend lots of my time advocating against traditional suburban-sprawl and car-dependency. She plans to live the rest of her life in a dense urban environment, as that is where she feels most at home.

     

    Kristen Schultz (she/her)

    Project: MARSH Project

    Kristen is an Environmental and Sustainability Studies Major with big dreams and a tiny garden here in Charleston. She calls the upstate of South Carolina her home and love being with my family, but she also take the greatest joy in being around her friends here in Charleston. She loves music, theater, just being outside, and she can’t wait to spend a semester with the CSD and learn awesome new things!
