Dr. Jack Schaeffer
Dr. Jack L. Schaeffer is a native of Charleston, SC. He practiced in Birmingham, Alabama where he was also president of an 18-location group practice and a refractive laser center. The practices were sold to MyEyeDr in 2017 and Goldman Sachs in 2019.
Dr. Schaeffer lectures internationally, serves on many industry boards and advisory panels and is involved with many clinical studies on contact lenses, pharmaceuticals and equipment. He has recently authored a mini-series on the history of contact lenses and the contact lens specialty practice.
He was an executive associate editor of the International Contact Lens Leadership Summit organized by Eye and Contact Lens Journal. Dr. Schaeffer also served as chairman of the contact lens and cornea section of the American Optometric Society. He also served as president of the Ocular Surface Society of Optometry during its establishment. He currently is a board member and fundraising chairman for Optometry Cares, the AOA foundation and the GPLI Institute.
Dr. Schaeffer has now taken the role of preservationist and is restoring a historic mansion in Charleston, SC. He has restored and opened a historic inn, 20 South Battery, where the Charleston Preservation Society was founded, and the site of many important Charleston families and historical events.
