John McCauley

President and CEO, Highland Paving Co. LLC

John McCauley is a native of Fayetteville, NC where he attended high school at Fayetteville Academy. After high school, he attended Davidson College where he graduated in 1989 with a BS in Economics. He went on to attend the University of North Carolina School of Law from which he graduated in 1992. He worked as an Assistant District Attorney for the 12th judicial district where he prosecuted the complete spectrum of criminal cases. Mr. McCauley later went into private legal practice where he focused on civil and criminal trial practice in both federal and state courts.

After leaving the practice of law in 1997, Mr. McCauley became CEO of Ratley Construction in Fayetteville, NC. Ratley Construction was a regional general contracting firm focusing on the restaurant and convenience store industries throughout the southeastern US. He left that firm in 2000 and became Vice President of McCauley McDonald Investments, Inc., a commercial real estate holding company with commercial properties in North and South Carolina. He remains with that firm as President.

In 2001, Mr. McCauley founded Highland Paving Co, LLC in Fayetteville, NC. He continues to serve as CEO of Highland Paving, which has grown into a regional complete sitework and highway contractor in southeastern NC. The firm owns and operates asphalt plants in Fayetteville, Wilmington and Southern Pines, NC. Highland Paving employs more than 220 people and possesses an unlimited highway and public utilities license in NC.

Mr. McCauley is a founding Director of Select Bank and Trust, which is headquartered in Dunn, NC with offices throughout NC and into Virginia and South Carolina. He serves as chair of the credit quality committee, which oversees a loan portfolio exceeding $1.4 billion. Select has become one of the most successful community banks in NC with $1.8 Billion in assets.

Mr. McCauley has been married to his wife Kelley for 27 short years. Their son Shep is a graduate of the College of Charleston, and their daughter Emma is a recent graduate of Wake Forest University.

He is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville where he has served as deacon and chair of the Stewardship Committee. He has served on numerous civic boards to include the Chamber of Commerce, Southeastern NC Economic Development Commission and Fayetteville Academy Board of Trustees. He currently serves as the founder and President of Vision 2026, a private group of citizens pursuing improved economic development and quality of life for the Fayetteville, NC metropolitan area.
