Paving Your Path

Getting your Employer to Sponsor Your EMBA

Many of our EMBA students at the College of Charleston successfully secure financial support by positioning their education as a strategic investment in the company. Here’s how you can make a compelling case:

Position it as a partnership: Don’t ask for a favor – instead, position it as an investment in yourself and the company’s future leadership. Your strategic thinking abilities, expanded network of business professionals, and refined leadership skills will benefit your company’s growth and pay dividends.

Ask clearly and confidently: Communication that is direct and clear highlights your ability to approach complex situations with poise and grace. Be sure to come with succinctbusiness-focused language that resonates with key decision makers.

Be prepared: Approach the conversation like any other high-stakes client meeting. By including a proposal outlining the program benefits, your personal goals within the program, and how you will bring skills learned back to the company, you’re showing leadership how this program not only benefits you, but benefits them and their long-term success.

Remain open and flexible: While full sponsorship may be your goal, it might not be an option for you. Partial funding, tuition reimbursement, and flexible scheduling can make the investment more appealing to your employer.

Remember: your EMBA is an investment in yourself, but also for your employer.
