Mike Lyons

Mike Lyons retired in 2022 as Vice President and Deputy Chief Compliance Officer for Becton Dickinson (a worldwide medical device company with 75,000 employees) after forty years practicing law in private and corporate settings.  He moved to Mount Pleasant, SC from Norwalk, CT in 2021 with his wife of over four decades, Elizabeth.  While in Connecticut he served in a number of public and private positions, including eight years on the Norwalk Board of Education (five years as Chair) and four years on its City Council (where he served a term as President).  He also served in positions in the Connecticut state government.

 

After retiring, Mike decided to return to school, and he received his master’s degree in history from the College of Charleston and The Citadel in May, 2026.

He has two great interests in history – 19th century America, and the ancient Mediterranean civilizations. The first provided him with the subject of his master’s thesis (on the Black members of the Republican-controlled city council of Charleston during Reconstruction), the second with the subject of his CofC course on “Ancient Engineering.”

Mike has three grown children and two grandchildren.  He is a private pilot, certified scuba diver, and amateur astronomer.
