Research Interest
Photography for me is about understanding how we interpret the world around us. I am
very interested in the act of seeing itself, and noticing what the eye is drawn to. I shoot with
black and white film because it makes me feel closer to the moment that was captured. The
tactile and finite nature of film makes me shoot more intentionally, and I enjoy focusing on light
and texture which black and white emphasizes. I am interested in creating in-camera multiple
exposure images, and experimenting with new techniques in the darkroom. An ongoing series
of mine, Postcards from The Church of The Open Sky, records paths to beaches, trails, and
marks of human interaction on the landscape that formed over repeated acts of movement.
These images aim to become meditations on being present in the current moment, and reflect
on the passage of time.
