Students majoring in Theatre, Dance or Music now have the opportunity to add on interdisciplinary coursework through the Musical Theatre Certificate Program.
This exciting program is a collaboration between the Department of Theatre & Dance and the Department of Music.
These 24 credit hour certificates provide additional training and the chance to further focus on skills needed as a musical theatre artist. The combination of courses vary according to the three majors and help develop versatile performance skills needed for careers in this specialized art form.

Musical Theatre for Actors Certificate
What skills will I learn?
Skills in musical theatre for acting, singing and dancing are the focus of these three new certificate programs. Students develop techniques for the voice and body through their course and production training and expand on the necessary skills of collaboration, communication, time management, creativity and problem-solving.

Hands-On Learning
Course and production work in all areas of theatre, dance and music provide hands-on learning experiences. Students will be able to audition for CofC Stages productions, CofC Opera productions and have performance opportunities through Broadway Ensemble, Musical Theatre Workshop, Musical choirs and ensembles, and other special events and courses between the multiple departments.

Location
As the artistic heartbeat of Charleston, the School of the Arts offers a wide array of facilities and state-of-the-art equipment to students. Our spaces include a proscenium theatre, two black box theatres, recital hall, costume and scenery shops, and design and rehearsal studios. Students also have the opportunity to perform and work in the historic Sottile Theatre, a recently-restored 785-seat venue that originally opened in 1927.
