The global nature of the sciences and technology often requires collaboration and understanding between nations. We encourage you to experience first-hand this collaboration and international exchange through a study abroad program.

First Year Experience (FYE Abroad)

FYE Experience Abroad allows you to explore a topic through cultural immersion in the second semester of your first year. Students take a one-credit academic course and then travel over spring break. 

Topics change from year-to-year, so be sure to check their website for the latest courses.

Your Year Abroad

Ireland or Scotland, London, Australia. Enhance your education with an international experience. SECM currently offers three, pre-designed semester abroad experiences. These are open to sophomores and juniors.
  • Engineering Abroad (Ireland or UK)

    Through a College of Charleston affiliate program, you can take engineering courses in either Scotland at Heriot-Watt University, or Ireland (National University of Ireland Maynooth).

  • Biotechnology and Public Health (London)

    Developing vaccines to fight the coronavirus during a global pandemic demonstrates how basic research, public health and biotechnology companies can work together to improve human health.

    The College of Charleston collaborates with the IFSA Life Science Accelerator program to provide an affordable spring semester abroad program in London focusing on the intersection of science, health and business.

We have a long-standing tradition of offering faculty-led summer programs in a variety of international locations.

You'll travel with other College of Charleston students and faculty while earning course credit.

Semester Abroad Programs

All students are welcome to explore the semester abroad options we developed as well as affiliate programs that offer STEM programs compatible with our curriculum.

Some examples include the "Code Around the World" study abroad option for majors in computer science and our Trujillo Campus (Spain) fall semester abroad offerings.
