Scholarships and Awards
The School of Business offers a variety of scholarship and awards for incoming first-year students. All prospective students should apply through the Cougar Scholarship Award System (CSAS).
Scholarships

For First-Year Students
Albert Sottile Memorial Scholarship
Award: Up to $5,000/academic year
Eligibility
- Incoming first-year student
- South Carolina resident
- Intended School of Business Major (must declare by end of the first semester)
- Student must demonstrate hospitality experience through career statement and resume
- Renewable up to three years, if terms are met.
Beatty Alumni Scholarship
Award: $2,000
Eligibility
- Incoming first-year student
- Intended School of Business Major (must declare by end of the first semester)
- Applicant for the Guy and Betty Beatty Scholarship who satisfactorily meets each of the scholarship’s selection criteria
- Ranked in the top set of qualified applicants, based on consideration by the scholarship selection committee
- Non-renewable scholarship
Charleston Wine + Food Festival Excellence Scholarship
Award: $2,000/academic year
Eligibility- Incoming first-year student
- Intended Hospitality and Tourism Management major, minor or concentration (must declare by end of the first semester enrolled)
- Student must demonstrate hospitality experience through career statement and resume
- Minimum SAT score of 1100 (combined highest math and verbal scores) or minimum ACT score of 24
- Renewable up to three years, if terms are met. Recipients are encouraged to pursue internships with the festival for at least one semester
Guy E. Beatty Scholarship
Award: $5,000/academic year
Eligibility
- Incoming first-year student
- Intended School of Business major (must declare by end of the first semester)
- Student must demonstrate academic distinction and complete their FAFSA for the award year
- Minimum SAT score of 1100 (combined highest math and verbal scores) or minimum ACT score of 24
- Renewable up to three years, if terms are met
Marion and Wayland H. Cato Jr. Scholarship
Award: Up to $5,000/academic year
Eligibility
- Incoming first-year student
- Intended School of Business major (must declare by end of the first semester).
- Applicant must be from a community where the Cato Corporation has a market presence (home address within 30 miles of a Cato store)
- Preference given to employees of the Cato Corporation and members of their immediate families
- Student must complete their FAFSA for the award year
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Renewable up to three years, if terms are met
Mattox Family Scholarship
Award: $2,500/academic year
Eligibility
- Incoming first-year student
- Intended School of Business major (must declare by the end of first semester)
- Student must complete their FAFSA for the award year
- Minimum SAT score of 1100 or minimum ACT score of 24
- Must demonstrate academic and leadership distinction
- Renewable up to three years, if terms are met
R. Keith & Melissa G. Sauls Scholarship
Award: Up to $5,000/academic year
Eligibility
- Incoming first-year student
- Intended School of Business major (must declare by end of the first semester enrolled at CofC)
- Student must complete their FAFSA for the award year
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Renewable up to three years, if terms are met
Schaeffer-Baker Diversity Scholarship
Award: $2,500
Eligibility
- Incoming first-year student who are underrepresented minorities
- Intended School of Business major (must declare by end of the first semester enrolled at CofC)
- Student must complete their FAFSA for the award year
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Renewable up to three years, if terms are met
Sharon & Rus Kingman Scholarship
Award: Up to $8,000/academic year
Eligibility
- Incoming first-year student
- Intended International Business major (must declare by the end of their first semester at CofC)
- Demonstration of leadership and student must complete their FAFSA for the award year
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Renewable up to three years, if terms are met
William Nelson Grooms Memorial Scholarship
Award: Full tuition
Eligibility
- Incoming first-year student
- Intended School of Business major (must declare by end of the first semester enrolled at CofC)
- Student must demonstrate academic distinction. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Renewable up to three years, if terms are met
