The Pre-Law Advising Program

Preparing for Law School

Pre-Law is not a degree program at the College of Charleston, since no particular major or coursework is required for admission to law school. Anyone with a bachelor's degree may apply. Admission to law school is heavily determined by your undergraduate GPA and your score on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).

The most common path to law school is a traditional liberal arts major, which strengthens your reading and critical thinking skills. Popular majors for law school applicants have always included English, History, and Political Science. Students majoring in Economics, Philosophy, and Physics have always scored especially well on the LSAT.

You should choose a major that interests you, that provides the academic rigor to gain admission to law school, and that might connect to your aspirations for your future legal career.

The College does offer academic programs devoted to the study of the law, including the Politics, Philosophy and Law Concentration within the Philosophy and Political Science majors and the Crime, Law and Society minor.

The Pre-Law Advising Program supplements your academic work with guidance and support on preparing for and applying to law school. We offer individual advising, as well as public events about both the law school admission process and current issues in the law.
