Research Interests

Nowlin’s research interests and activity include such areas as theories of the policy process, policy learning, belief systems (specifically cultural theory), governance, deliberation, climate change, energy, and natural hazards. His research has been funded by the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium, the Gulf Research Program of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the US Department of Agriculture. Dr. Nowlin’s research has appeared in many of the leading journals in public policy, public administration, and environmental politics including the Policy Studies Journal, Review of Policy Research, Public Administration, Environmental Research Letters, Weather, Climate, and Society, Energy Research and Social Science, Energy Policy, and Public Understanding of Science, among others.
