Research Interest
Gareth Smail is a linguistic anthropologist whose research explores the intersection of schooling, language, and inequality in the Global South. His current research projects focus on North Africa’s transition to multilingual education. Other interests include social media and governance in the Global South and cross-cultural communication. Dr. Smail has also spent a decade working with international development organizations in the U.S. and abroad.
