Summer Coish, M.P.H.

Adjunct Faculty of International Studies and Environmental Studies

Summer Coish has worked as an international development practitioner for more than two decades–focused primarily on community-based, participatory development; refugee, migrant, and returnee populations; urban informality; and the global plastics crisis. She has worked with community-based and civil society organizations, national governments, multinational organizations and the private sector in Afghanistan, Central Asia, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, and the United Arab Emirates. Central to each of these professional experiences has been a focus on understanding the needs of communities and advocating for interventions and policies that reflect those needs. Summer co-founded and co-published Steppe magazine, the first international, English-language magazine on the art and culture of Central Asia and Afghanistan.
