Lynn Cherry, Associate Chair, PH.D.
Associate Professor
Lynn Cherry joined the College of Charleston faculty in 1991 and was a founding member of the Department of Communication. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Cameron University in Oklahoma, her master’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her doctoral degree at Louisiana State University.
Cherry holds a faculty appointment in the department, and served as Associate Chair of the Department of Communication from 2008-2016. She was reappointed as Associate Chair in 2021.
At the College of Charleston, Cherry has taught such courses as American public address, ethics in communication, media criticism, introduction to communication theory, and public speaking. She is past president of the Carolinas Communication Association and a former officer of the Pi Kappa Delta Southeast Province.
Cherry has provided leadership at the College of Charleston in a variety of roles, including her service as Director of Forensics (Speech and Debate), Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies (2001-2006), Director of the College's Undergraduate Academic Services Office (2006-2008), Associate Chair of the Dept. of Communication (2008-2016), Speaker of the Faculty (2011-2014), and Associate Provost for Curriculum and Institutional Resources (2016-2019).
