  • George Street Fitness Center

    Located on the first floor of the Campus Center Apartments, the George Street Fitness Center is the College's most comprehensive fitness facility located in the heart of campus.

    The George Street Fitness Center is open seven days a week during the fall and spring semesters, and five days a week during the summer semester.

    A valid College of Charleston ID is required for entry. Faculty and staff are welcome to join the facility by first purchasing a GSFC employee pass

    Highlights 

    • Dumbbells from 5 to 100 lbs.
    • More than 10,000 lbs. of weight plates
    • Deadlifting platforms, Olympic barbells, and bumper plates
    • 28 weight machines
    • 50 cardio machines, including treadmills, bikes and elliptical steppers
    • 8 power racks and 4 bench press benches
    • Group exercise room
    • Fitness classes and programs such as Zumba and CougarFit

  • Johnson & Silcox Centers

    Location: 30 GEORGE STREET

    One large activity center was formed by combining these two gymnasiums. The F. Mitchell Johnson Physical Education Center (built in 1981) and the Willard A. Silcox Physical Education and Health Center (renovated in 1995) occupy the corner of George and Meeting streets.

    Here, you'll find:

    • four basketball courts.
    • five volleyball courts.
    • six badminton courts.
    • a space for indoor soccer.
    • an indoor running track (14.5 laps/mile).
    • a small workout area.
    • five squash courts.
    • a multi-purpose room.
    • locker and shower areas.

    The multi-purpose room, J201 Johnson Center, is a 4,900 sq.ft. studio used extensively for academic classes, recreation fitness classes, and sport club practices. Contact the Campus Recreation Services director about room reservation requests.

  • The Yard

    "The Yard" is our 10-acre outdoor recreation site, is the primary location for sport clubs practices
    and rec sports play.

    It is located on James Island at 863 Riverland Drive, between the Lowcountry Senior Center
    and the James Island County Park headquarters. Activities at this facility are scheduled by CRS.

    DIRECTIONS TO THE FIELD

    1. Go west on Calhoun Street and enter the James Island Connector (S.C. 30).
    2. At the Folly Road exit, turn right and immediately get in the left lane to turn left onto Central Park Road. A U.S. Post Office sits on this corner.
    3. Drive 0.9 miles to the end of Central Park Road and turn left onto Riverland Drive.
    4. Travel 0.3 miles to the CRS fields. The gravel entryway is located just after you pass the James Island County Park Headquarters.

    NOTE: REGARDING THE USE OF CITY OF CHARLESTON'S RECREATION FIELDS
    Throughout the City of Charleston one will find many green spaces and recreation fields. The City's Department of Recreation requests that we not use these fields for organized activities without a permit.
