Garrett Davidson, Ph.D.


Associate Professor of Arabic Studies

Garrett is associate professor of Arabic and Muslim World studies at the College of Charleston. He received his Ph.D. with honors from the University of Chicago’s Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations in 2014.

Garrett lived in Cairo for several years where he completed his M.A. in Arabic studies at the American University in Cairo. He has also lived, studied and conducted research in Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia and India. 

Garrett’s research examines the Islamic scholarly tradition, Arabic manuscript culture and provenance history. He has held fellowships at Princeton, Yale, the Institute for Advanced Study and the Chester Beatty Museum.
