Cliffton "Cliff" Stanley Peacock, aged 70, from Charleston, SC, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
Cliff was born on October 21, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, to Mary B. Peacock (Buchanan) and Stewart Peacock.
He attended Boston University, where he studied painting under Philip Guston. Cliff was a highly respected artist and received numerous prestigious awards, including three National Endowment for the Arts fellowships, two Massachusetts Artist Fellowships, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award, a South Carolina Fellowship, a Gottlieb Foundation Grant, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and, in 1993, the Prix de Rome from the American Academy in Rome.
In 1991, Cliff relocated to Charleston, SC, to work at the College of Charleston, where he taught painting and drawing for thirty-three years. There, he met Barbara Duval, a Professor of Art, and they formed a relationship that lasted many years. Apart from being an acclaimed painter, Cliff was a colorful storyteller, an avid reader, a musician and music enthusiast, a canine lover, a wizard in the kitchen, and a generous teacher whose mentorship influenced countless students and continues to inspire.
Cliff is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Barbara Duval, as well as his brothers, Stewart and Robert, and sisters, Mary Rzeszutko and Amy Tatarunas.
