Why study mathematics at the College of Charleston?

Math has unlimited opportunities. Our classes are small and taught by expert faculty. Students can pursue studies in pure and applied mathematics. Take the opportunity to conduct research with faculty on topics such as non-linear waves, dynamics, graph theory and more. You can even earn graduate credit during your senior year. This may help you earn a master's degree in mathematical sciences more quickly.

What skills will I learn?

This program provides a pathway to developing strong critical thinking skills, skills which you'll utilize throughout theoretical and applied mathematics courses. You'll learn to tackle real-world problems and find creative solutions. Mathematics majors develop abstract thinking, proof writing skills and more.

Program Highlights

We offer a core curriculum that provides you with a strong foundation. Then, create your own path by choosing elective courses. Study differential equations, statistical methods, complex analysis, linear programming and more. You'll join a supportive community of mathematicians.

Hands-On Learning

You'll have the opportunity to participate in faculty research or create your own personalized research. You may attend conferences. You can also present and attend colloquium lectures.
Senior Project
In your senior year, you can choose to complete either a practicum, capstone or bachelor’s essay. A senior project prepares you for a future in the industry or in academia. It allows you to showcase your full potential.
Internship Opportunities
You can gain internships, research projects and jobs right here in the Silicon Harbor. You may also look at opportunities beyond the Lowcountry. You will foster strong professional relationships with employers.
