Parents & Families

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) as amended, protects the privacy of student education records by requiring prior written consent beore disclosing personally identifiable information to a third party such as a student's parents.

We recognize that parents and guardians are important to our students and may choose to share some or all of their FERPA-protected information with you.

Consult with your Student

As a parent or guardian, the easiest and quickest way to receive information on your student's grades, finances and other education records is to have your student provide it directly to you.

Even if your student provides you with written permission to access their records, the College of Charleston does not automatically send this information to you. You will need to request information. If you have received permission to access education records, you will need to provide a written request for a copy of the desired information.
