Important Notes

  • You can complete the application online, or download and submit a paper application. (The online application is preferred). 
  • If you complete the online application, you can select "save my progress and resume later" until you've completed the application. 
  • The REACH program is a non-degree certificate program. 

Who Should Apply


To be considered for the REACH Program, applicants must: 

  • Have a mild intellectual and/or developmental disability and/or a disability that significantly interferes with their academic performance, social development, and independent living skills.
  • Have been eligible for special education and/or related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Be at least 18-years old and have completed a high school program.
  • Have the ability to read and complete math at a functional level.
  • Demonstrate the ability to accept responsibility for his/her actions and have no history of disruptive or challenging behaviors (the REACH Program does not have the personnel needed to manage behavioral issues).
  • Be independent in handling his/her specialized dietary and/or medical needs, including medication (the REACH staff will not manage, supervise, or administer medication).
  • Independently demonstrate a desire to attend the REACH Program at the College of Charleston.
  • Agree to participate in all courses, sessions, internships, and employment training.

Application Process


  • Complete and submit the application packet (include all required documentation and the application fee). Online applications are preferred, but you may also submit a paper application. 
  • Admissions are done on a rolling basis, so there is no formal deadline. The Program continues to accept and review applications until all spots in the incoming class have been filled
  • Students are notified by mail if they have been selected for an interview. If selected, the applicant must participate in the interview process with and without family/support persons 
  • Students are notified by mail if they have been selected for admission into the REACH Program
  • Applicants accepted into the REACH Program must be available to attend a two-day College of Charleston Freshman Orientation in the summer
  • The REACH Program admits ten (10) students per year
