Conference Assistant
WHAT IS A CONFERENCE ASSISTANT?
A Conference Assistant (CA) is a current College of Charleston student who is a part of the front-line staff for conference and summer school housing. Conference Assistants assist with setup and inspect guest rooms, including making beds and pulling used linens, check-in/out of conference guests, inspect residential spaces not used by summer conferences, and assist in the case of a building or campus emergency. Conference Assistants are to present a positive image of the College of Charleston by having excellent customer service skills, a pleasant demeanor, a helpful disposition, and a responsive attitude.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- CAs must be enrolled for the Fall 2026 semester at the College of Charleston.
- CAs must be in overall good standing at the College of Charleston.
- CAs will work shifts Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Shifts may vary from week to week. CAs are required to work at least two weekend check-ins per summer, with the opportunity for additional shifts in the evening or on the weekends.
- CAs may hold other jobs off campus during their term of employment; however, it is required that candidates be available for shifts Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- The summer conference season runs May 1 through August 7. Consideration will be given to candidates who can only work for portions of the time between May 1-August 7, but preference will be given to those who are available for the entire duration.
- CAs must participate in a training program. Dates to be determined.
- CAs must be able to travel an urban campus during warm summer months, climb stairs, lift and push a minimum of 25lbs, and repeat repetitive tasks.
EXPECTATIONS
- Be knowledgeable of all College of Charleston, Campus Housing and Residence Life policies.
- Be familiar with services and amenities provided to guests and groups.
- Work independently and be able to assess situations in order to take initiative and respond with good judgment.
- Present quality customer service to conference guests, students and visitors.
- Work up to 37.5 hours per week.
- Work cooperatively as a part of the Summer Conference team.
- Attend all training sessions and staff meetings arranged by the Campus Housing staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcome groups and guests when they arrive on campus and provide exceptional customer service during their stay.
- Serve as a College representative and resource person for summer guests.
- Conduct pre- and post-conference walkthrough of rooms and note any damages or deficiencies.
- Make beds and place linens for conference guests.
- Bag dirty linens after group departure.
- Review and update all roster/registration information and assist with preparation of key packets prior to check-in.
- Conduct check-in/out of multiple conference guests and groups.
- Assume additional responsibilities as identified by Campus Housing staff.
COMPENSATION
- CAs will be paid $16.00 per hour, up to 37.5 hours per week.
- A bed space will be available during your employment at a discounted rate of $475 per month. Rent is due by the 1st day of each month. (Living on campus is not required for this position.)

Facilities Assistant
WHAT IS A FACILITIES ASSISTANT?
A Facilities Assistant (FA) is a current College of Charleston student who is a part of the support staff for summer conferences and preparation of the halls for the fall. Facilities Assistants will work in collaboration with Facilities Management and Campus Housing to ensure spaces and furniture are ready for use by guests and students. Facilities Assistants will inspect, test and repair all furniture on campus and ensure it is properly placed in the correct location within the room.
Facilities assistants will also be cross-trained to assist with the setup of guest rooms, including making beds and pulling used linens, check-in/out of conference guests and assistance in the case of a building or campus emergency.

- Be able to stay on task, remain organized, and keep detailed records of all inspections and repairs.
- Present quality customer service to conference guests, students and visitors.
- Work between 25 and 37.5 hours per week.
- Work cooperatively as a part of the Summer Conference team.
- Attend all training sessions and staff meetings arranged by the Campus Housing staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect, move, maintain, and repair furniture in all residential spaces on campus. This may include minor carpentry repairs on furniture and preparing rooms for occupancy. Repairs are performed using basic hand tools and all proper use will be taught – no experience needed.
- Assist in pre- and post-conference walkthrough of rooms and note any damages or deficiencies.
- Assist in room set up/ tear down, including making beds and bagging dirty linens after group departure.
- Assume additional responsibilities as identified by Campus Housing staff.
COMPENSATION
