Italian Studies Minor

Study Italian language, culture and history to understand Western civilization.

This minor provides a comprehensive understanding of the evolution of Western culture. This program is perfect if you're interested in design, politics and international business. It can also help with careers in entertainment and religion.

What will I learn?

You will develop a fluency in the Italian language and cultures. Study the language and literature. Dive into its rich culture and history. In addition to becoming a subject-matter expert, you'll also develop important analytical and critical thinking skills. You'll deepen your appreciation of other peoples and cultures.

Program Highlights

We offer one of the most comprehensive Italian programs in South Carolina. Along with the language courses, literature courses are offered in English. This is a great option for students who do not speak Italian but are interested in Italian culture. The program offers a number of literature and cinema courses in English and Italian.
  • Hands-On Learning

    Join our student-led Italian club. Participate in conversation meetups, movie nights, cooking lessons, bocce ball tournaments and more. You might even take part in the Nuovo Cinema Italiano Film Festival. You can meet actors, directors and Italian and American film scholars.

  • Study Abroad

    Immerse yourself in the Italian language and culture. We offer a number of study abroad opportunities. Take intermediate Italian in Sorrento, Italy. Study child and parent interactions and behaviors in Florence, Italy. You may also study the history of tourism in Italy!

  • Internship Opportunities

    Take the Italian Studies internship course. This course typically takes place during a study abroad experience in Italy. We'll organize experiences for you to learn real-world skills. Our students have completed internships throughout Italy.
